Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Given the variety of specializations in psychology, there is a counseling niche that will appeal to you. Further, due to advances in medical systems, there is a growing skill-shortage of trained nurses across all sectors. Certified nursing assistants can gain experience and earn a good salary while training. Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to enter the workforce quickly. The next step in a typical nursing career is to become a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse. Practice requirements for LPNs vary from state to state, but basic duties include passing meds, wound care, and administering feeding tubes. A four-year BSN program allows students to study specialized areas of nursing, including pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health nursing. Students may also study allied health topics outside of nursing through elective courses.

An RN has to cope with more responsibility, and must oversee the work of LPNs and CNAs under their supervision. Please check with your state board of nursing for practical details and exams that you must pass to become board certified. The following medical jobs provide challenging career paths, as well as competitive starting salaries with advancement prospects. They also provide emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, stroke, drowning, or shock. Radiologic technologists perform diagnostic imaging examinations, such as x-rays, and other procedures. If you can pass the rigorous training program, nursing jobs are increasingly available, due to the aging US population, as well as the proliferation of healthcare services.

Online Courses - MOOCs

University of Alabama child psychology
The best college for a student is not necessarily the highest ranking school in the Forbes or US News listings, but the college that offers a student rewarding career chances. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. Recently, MIT announced that it's open courseware platform will be available to students and instructors at no cost.

Business & Medical Job Listings

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability than which school you graduated from. Students will impress future bosses more with an impressive portfolio than with an advanced degree, so practice your skills as a consultant for local companies. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, so you resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
